Johannesburg, South Africa — Deputy President Paul Mashatile has met with Zimbabwean Vice President Kembo Mohadi on the margins of the 2025 G20 Leaders’ Summit, reaffirming the commitment of both countries to deepen political, economic and regional cooperation. The bilateral meeting took place on Thursday ahead of the high-level sessions scheduled for the weekend.
According to the Presidency, the engagement focused on strengthening collaboration in trade, energy, migration management and regional security. Both leaders noted the historical ties between South Africa and Zimbabwe and emphasised the need for coordinated policy approaches within the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
Mashatile highlighted South Africa’s commitment to supporting regional stability and inclusive economic development, adding that cooperation between Pretoria and Harare remains essential for advancing shared priorities such as cross-border infrastructure projects, investment promotion and people-to-people exchanges.
Vice President Mohadi welcomed South Africa’s continued partnership and outlined Zimbabwe’s areas of focus, including economic reforms, industrial revitalisation and enhanced bilateral trade flows. He said Zimbabwe values the support of neighbouring states as it accelerates its economic recovery initiatives.
The meeting took place as global leaders arrive in Johannesburg for the historic G20 Summit, which is being hosted on African soil for the first time. Both countries are participating in discussions centred on development financing, global governance reform, climate resilience and digital transformation.
