One of the owners of Pretoria nightclub Zanzou, which was recently exposed for the violent abuse of patrons, claims he was unaware of the incidents involving his security staff.
Neo Moela, a director and shareholder at Zanzou, addressed the media on Tuesday morning, expressing his stance on the disturbing allegations.
His appearance alongside his father, Joshua Moela, and his lawyer, Zola Majavu, came in response to viral videos showing bouncers physically and sexually assaulting customers at the nightclub two weeks ago.
Despite Zanzou’s management admitting in an earlier statement that they were aware of the assaults, Moela insisted that he only learned about the incidents when they surfaced on social media.
Through his lawyer, he maintained that he had no prior knowledge of the attacks, despite his role in the establishment.
Majavu stated that Moela, as a young entrepreneur and family-oriented individual, strongly condemned the acts and did not condone such behaviour.
However, when journalists questioned the inconsistencies in Moela’s claims and asked for clarity on whether he had any prior awareness of the assaults, Majavu declined to provide a direct response.
