The City of Tshwane has announced a planned 10 hour water shutdown that will affect several communities supplied by the Babelegi Reservoir and Tower. The interruption is scheduled for Thursday, 26 March, from 07:00 to 17:00.
The municipality said the shutdown forms part of essential infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving the reliability and efficiency of water supply in the affected areas. Residents have been urged to prepare in advance by storing enough water for household use.
According to the city, the temporary suspension of supply is necessary to allow technicians to install key components at the reservoir, including an inlet and bypass system on the reservoir meter. The upgrade is expected to improve water flow management and strengthen the overall supply network.
Several areas will be impacted by the shutdown, including Kekana, Refilwe, Mandela Village, Marokolong, Ramotse, Babelegi Industries, Rockville and Leboneng.
The city has acknowledged the inconvenience and apologised to residents, emphasising that the work cannot be completed without temporarily halting water distribution.
To help manage the situation, residents have been encouraged to use water sparingly before and during the outage. The municipality has advised against non essential water use, such as watering gardens, washing vehicles, cleaning driveways with hosepipes and filling swimming pools. Households are also encouraged to limit water usage where possible during the disruption.
The planned maintenance is expected to support a more stable and efficient water supply system once completed.
