Alleged fixer Brown Mogotsi faced tough questioning from Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee investigating police corruption on Tuesday, as members scrutinised his business interests and his claimed role in crime intelligence.
During his first appearance before the inquiry, Mogotsi maintained that he had served as both an intelligence asset and an informant over the years, working with several handlers. Much of the session focused on clarifying his professional background and the nature of his links to crime intelligence structures.
Mogotsi told the committee that he is currently an entrepreneur and has, at different stages, worked within crime intelligence as an informant and agent. However, committee members pressed him to provide clearer details about his claims.
Among those raising questions was Julius Malema, who asked Mogotsi to explain why he referred to himself as an entrepreneur and to clarify what role an informant plays within law enforcement structures, including which department such a position would fall under.
In response, Mogotsi said his business activities include selling alcohol and meat on a small scale. He added that his involvement in intelligence dates back several years, stating that he became an agent in 2009. He also suggested that it may be more accurate to describe himself as a former informant.
Proceedings before the Ad Hoc Committee are set to continue as Mogotsi’s testimony carries on.
