Eskom has announced that a scheduled power outage will take place in Etwatwa, Gauteng, on Wednesday, 30 April, as part of necessary maintenance work on the local distribution network.

The outage is set to take place from 08:00 to 18:00 and will impact Etwatwa Extensions 23, 31, 32, and the Barcelona area.

The maintenance is part of Eskom’s ongoing efforts to ensure the stability and reliability of its infrastructure.

Residents are advised to treat all electrical appliances as live throughout the outage for safety reasons.

While Eskom has made efforts to communicate the planned work in advance, it has cautioned that unforeseen circumstances may lead to delays or even the cancellation of the maintenance.

Although load shedding remains on hold, Eskom has highlighted the need for responsible electricity use, particularly as winter demand increases.

The utility has raised concerns about transformer overloads and equipment damage caused by excessive or illegal electricity usage, which can lead to dangerous explosions and extended outages.

Consumers are urged to avoid illegal connections and ensure they purchase electricity from authorised vendors.

Regularising electricity use continues to be a priority to safeguard infrastructure and promote consistent supply.

In support of vulnerable communities, Eskom reminded qualifying households to register for free basic electricity through their local municipality, helping ensure safe and legal access to power.

The utility also called on members of the public to assist in protecting its infrastructure by reporting any illegal activity.

Anonymous tips can be submitted via the Eskom Crime Line at 0800 112 722 or by WhatsApp on 081 333 3323.

Eskom expressed appreciation for the community’s cooperation and encouraged residents to use electricity efficiently, especially during the colder months.
