JOHANNESBURG – Its back to business at the Johannesburg Zoo.
Volunteers have stepped in to care for the animals after workers there went on strike.
“We are happy to report that its business as usual at the Joburg Zoo,” said spokesman Jenny Moodley.
“We have busloads of people coming in to enjoy themselves it this beautiful weather.
“We also have a huge contingence of volunteers.”
The zoo was forced to close on Friday after workers downed tools over salary and management issues.
Officials say the strike is illegal.
They immediately put out a social media plea for volunteers, who were quick to respond.
Fortunately, the volunteers are taking good care of the animals, and will be helping out for the rest of the weekend.
At the same time, a court interdict has been issued against the strikers, who are expected back at work on Monday.
