Gauteng – Minister Khumbudzo Ntshavheni emphasized the importance of addressing challenges facing South Africa as the government begins the work of the seventh administration and the next 30 years of freedom.
Ntshavheni highlighted the crucial role of Stats SA in providing socio-economic data to inform decision-making in government and business. She stressed that statistical data is essential for understanding the nation’s needs, monitoring government policies, and adapting to changing business landscapes.
Ntshavheni emphasized the need for collaboration, partnerships, and platforms to harness the full potential of data and close the data gap. She also mentioned that statistical data shows significant economic growth and progress in poverty reduction and employment over the past 30 years.
The Minister emphasized the importance of utilizing data and statistical information to address unemployment issues, especially among the youth facing structural unemployment due to mismatched qualifications.
The government aims to work with all sectors to achieve growth, security, and prosperity, with Stats SA being a crucial asset in this pursuit. Stats SA’s 2024/25 Work Programme focuses on delivering essential statistics for building a better South Africa, including the recent digital census results.
The Medium‐Term Expenditure Framework allocates R2.65 billion for Stats SA in 2024/25, with increasing budgets for the following financial years. The minister highlighted the significance of the public’s contribution in providing information for Stats SA to create a comprehensive numerical picture of the nation.
