As holidaymakers make their way home, heavy rain and thundershowers are expected to persist across the eastern parts of the country.
Tokelo Chiloane, a forecaster with the South African Weather Service (SAWS), informed SAnews on Tuesday that 80% chance of rain and thunderstorms is anticipated in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, and KwaZulu-Natal, while other provinces will see lighter rainfall with chances ranging from 60% to zero.
The Zululand District Municipality in KZN has been issued an Orange Level 5 weather warning due to the potential for flooding, while Yellow Level 4 warnings have been issued for severe thunderstorms in the central and northern regions of KZN. Gauteng, Mpumalanga, and parts of the Free State and Northern Cape are under a Yellow Level 2 warning for thundershowers.
Chiloane also noted that while the weather alert for Wednesday is still being finalized, heavy rainfall is expected to continue, particularly in Mpumalanga and Limpopo, where there is an 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms. The northern parts of Gauteng and some areas of KZN will experience 60% rainfall, with other parts of the country expecting a 30% chance.
