Western Cape Calls on Youth to Apply for YearBeyond Programme
The Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport is inviting unemployed youth to apply for the YearBeyond Programme, which offers valuable work experience while giving back to local communities.
YearBeyond is a partnership between the government, the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), donors, and non-governmental organizations. Initially launched in the Western Cape, this national initiative provides young people aged 18 to 25 with meaningful work experience, a pathway to further education or employment, and promotes a culture of community service.
Western Cape Cultural Affairs and Sport MEC, Ricardo Mackenzie, stated that applicants must be aged between 18 and 25, reside within 5 kilometers of a YearBeyond site, and be registered on the SAYouth.Mobi platform. Some streams within the programme may also have additional qualification requirements, such as minimum matric marks in languages or maths.
Mackenzie emphasized that the YearBeyond programme offers young people the chance to gain practical experience, enhance their CVs, and develop skills that will improve their prospects for future employment.
“This is a great opportunity for youth to get a head start and take the next steps towards becoming successful adults,” said Mackenzie.
Western Cape Premier, Alan Winde, expressed strong support for the initiative, highlighting its importance in preparing young people for the job market and guiding them toward future careers.
“I am very proud of YearBeyond. The enthusiasm and dedication of these young people gives me hope,” said Winde. “Though the Western Cape’s youth unemployment rate is lower than other provinces, we must continue our efforts to help youth find jobs. I encourage all eligible young people to seize this fantastic opportunity.”
