JOHANNESBURG – Government has praised law enforcement agencies for restoring peace in Tshwane.
Violent protests erupted in several parts of the city after the ANC announced Thoko Didiza as its mayoral candidate.
At least five people were killed and several shops looted.
Government says the SAPS and Metro Police worked together to help bring the perpetrators to book.
At least 270 suspects have been arrested.
It also thanked private security companies and community members who assisted in bringing peace.
Police have since maintained a strong presence in the capital city.
