The interruption is scheduled to begin at 20:00 on Saturday, June 20, and is expected to continue until 08:00 on Sunday, June 21, resulting in a 12-hour power outage for affected areas.

According to the city, the planned maintenance forms part of ongoing efforts to improve the reliability, safety and long-term performance of Cape Town’s electricity supply infrastructure.

The suburbs expected to be affected include Plumstead, Grassy Park, Lotus River, Ottery, Wetton, Fairways, Wynberg, Rosmead, Parkwood and Southfield.

The city has cautioned that neighbouring areas may also experience interruptions depending on their connection to the affected network. Residents are encouraged to consult the official outage map to determine whether their properties fall within the planned maintenance zone.

Municipal officials noted that while the outage is scheduled to last until Sunday morning, electricity could be restored earlier if work is completed ahead of schedule. However, residents are advised to treat all electrical installations as live throughout the maintenance period as supply may be restored without prior notice.

To minimise the risk of damage caused by power surges when electricity is restored, residents and businesses have been encouraged to switch off or unplug sensitive appliances before the outage begins.

The city said the temporary inconvenience is necessary to allow technicians to complete critical upgrades and maintenance work that will help strengthen the electricity network and reduce the likelihood of future disruptions.

The City of Cape Town has apologised for the inconvenience and thanked residents for their patience and cooperation while the work is carried out.
