ABUJA – As the Nigeria Presidential Elections draw nearer. Opposition parties are throwing their weight behind their candidate in full force.
The Three most prominent parties are The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the All-Progressives Congress (APC), and the newly registered Labour Party (LP) which has become an unexpected challenger in the election.
APC -Bola Ahmed Tinubu
Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All-Progressive Congress is a Nigerian accountant and politician who served as the Governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007 and Senator for Lagos West during the brief Third Republic. He was also a former member of the Social Democratic Party and has been flagged by numerous counterparts and political figures in the country, as a flight risk, cunning and divisive in his tactics.
According to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, the presidential candidate would be flanked by Singapore if he reveals information regarding the candidate. The statesman is also stated on record as being unhealthy and sick according to records shared of his medical document in the United Kingdom by some of his opponents.
Tinubu, his media allies, support organisations, and the numerous arms of the current government have shown support and solidarity in the race to have the APC retain power at the helm of the federal government of the country.
Tinubu like all candidates has made promises of a better Nigeria and a mandate to sort out the insecurity and rising inflation in the country. Political and economic analysts believe APC is the strongest contender in the presidential race, with the reach of campaign offices, influence, and access to state resources.
PDP – Atiku Abubakar
Atiku Abubakar GCON of the People’s Democratic Party is a Nigerian politician and businessman who served as the vice president of Nigeria from 1999 to 2007 during the presidency of Olusegun Obasanjo. Abubaker is making a comeback after losing the 2015 presidential election to Muhamadu Buhari, the current president of Nigeria.
The statesman is regarded as a brilliant and astute leader, the candidate who was once a vice president is believed to be a better candidate who understands the operations of the federal government and stands a better chance of ruling well.
However, there are several allegations and controversies surrounding the statesman, as an anti-corruption organisation in Nigeria, called the Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA Resource Centre) has filed a petition to the Economic Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) against the former Vice President of Nigeria and presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar for allegedly incorporating a Special-Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to embezzle government funds.
Meanwhile, in the viral audio recorded by Atiku’s long-time close associate, Mike Achimugu, the politician further confessed to receiving a 100-million-naira bribe in the form of a donation from a former Plateau State Governor, Joshua Dariye, through Marine Float.
However, the organisation noted that the former Vice President’s self-confession has not only confirmed the rotten state of public offices in Nigeria but also further confirmed the attempt of the commission to investigate some suspected corruption without uncovering Mr. Atiku’s beneficial ownership of the companies used to embezzle funds.
According to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, the presidential candidate would also be flanked by Russia if he reveals information regarding the candidate.
LP – Peter Obi
Peter Gregory Obi CON is a Nigerian businessman and politician who served as governor of Anambra from March to November 2006, February to May 2007, and June 2007 to March 2014. Peter Obi is the unexpected challenger that both the APC and PDP never contemplated, from state embezzlement and reformation speeches to becoming a presidential candidate.
One that would affect the tip of votes that could have been allotted to the APC or the PDP. If Peter Obi does not win the election, his party may as well be the determining factor that either makes or breaks the camel’s back. Unlike the other contenders who are smeared with controversies and allegations that are unveiled by their opponents and past party members, Obi is an exemplary leader hoping to get a chance to get involved in leadership.
According to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, the presidential candidate Peter Obi is the only commendable candidate and he has thrown his weight and support behind Peter Obi.
“The growing acceptance of Peter Obi amongst youths and women is because they believe that he would bring a new narrative to governance that will reorder the nation for the benefit of the people.
“Obi will not disappoint Nigerians if elected because he is competent, trustworthy, and has the needed integrity to lead the country to greatness,’’ says Mrs. Dudu Manuga.
The race is on and the unending campaigns are lined up on social platforms.
The general notion that Presidency is not as easy as governorship is true but understanding that teamwork and getting the right people to the helm of affairs is what makes good governance is one of the ethos of peter obi and shockingly Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
On the opposite, little can be said about the Media aide and team of Atiku according to the type of campaigns on social media platforms and tactics that are masterminded by Dino Melaye, the rabble-rouser and all-flashy politician.
The result of the election would be the ultimate decider but till then, all ears on the ground and all hands on deck in the making of the next president of Nigeria.
