Suspended police sergeant Fannie Nkosi will remain behind bars after his attempt to apply for bail was unsuccessful at the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court.
Nkosi made his first court appearance on Tuesday, facing charges including theft, unlawful possession of ammunition and defeating the ends of justice.
CHARGES LINKED TO STATE PROPERTY
The charges stem from allegations that state dockets and ammunition were found in Nkosi’s possession while he was on suspension and required to return all official property.
His arrest followed a police raid at his Pretoria home last week, amid his involvement in proceedings before the Madlanga Commission.
COURT DELAYS BAIL APPLICATION
Nkosi’s legal team argued for his bail application to proceed, stating that he feared for his safety in custody and had not eaten since his arrest.
However, Magistrate Renee Venter granted the state’s request for a postponement to allow further investigation and preparation for the bail hearing.
NEXT COURT DATE SET
The matter has been postponed to Monday, with Nkosi expected to remain in custody until his bail application is heard.
