Controversial North West businessman Brown Mogotsi has made a series of explosive but unsubstantiated allegations before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria.
These include claims that he is a Crime Intelligence agent and that KwaZulu Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi is working with the United States Central Intelligence Agency.
Mogotsi told the commission that he was first recruited as a Crime Intelligence informant in 1999 and later, in 2009, became what he described as a contact agent responsible for relaying information to Crime Intelligence structures.
He further alleged that geopolitical concerns surfaced in 2023 when South Africa filed a case with the International Court of Justice related to Israel.
According to him, there were fears among unnamed parties that the move could disrupt coal exports, given that the Richards Bay Coal Terminal is a major supplier to several international markets including Israel and the United States.
Mogotsi claimed that these supposed concerns prompted foreign intelligence interests to recruit prominent South Africans including Zulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini and Mkhwanazi to safeguard trade routes.
He said his suspicions about Mkhwanazi were based on information provided by a source, although no evidence has yet been presented to the commission.
The inquiry is expected to continue examining the credibility of Mogotsi’s claims.
