JOHANNESBURG – The South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) on Sunday welcomed the arrest of a 26-year-old man in connection with the death of Annetjie Myburgh.
It conveyed condolences to the family of the murdered Mpumalanga woman, as well as to her friends, neighbours and the Rocky Drift farming community.
This follows police confirmation that the man was arrested on Saturday after an intensive police search.
The body of the 58-year-old Myburgh was discovered a few kilometres outside White River.
Mpumalanga police spokesman Gerald Sedibe said her hijacked Mitsubish Pajero was recovered in the Numbi area.

“Although the breakthrough comes after a life has been lost we hope that the police investigations will lead to the arrest of all those who were involved in the ghastly and heinous crime for them to account for their atrocities,” Sanco national spokesman Jabu Mahlangu said.
Justice had to be seen to be done for the bereaved family to find closure, he said.
“No bail and a harsher sentence will serve as a deterrent and send a strong message to perpetrators of violent crime targeted at our rural farming communities,” Mahlangu said ahead of the man’s expected appearance in the White River Magistrate’s Court.
According to an earlier police report, Myburgh was allegedly accosted by four armed men while on her way to work on Wednesday morning. She was reportedly forced into her car before the suspects drove off with her.
