JOHANNESBURG – Dozens of police officers are monitoring Zandspruit, north of Johannesburg.
Parts of Bayers Naude, on Thursday remained closed to traffic as roads are blocked with rocks and debris.

Police said running battles continued overnight with protesters looting nearby shopping complexes.
A furniture shop, liquor store and a clothing store were looted while protesters also tried to break into a bank.
Four people were arrested and two cars set alight on Peter Road.

On Wednesday, police clashed with protesters who were pelting them with stones.
They fired rubber bullets, stun grenades and teargas to disperse the crowd. Two officers were injured.
The area remains tense as residents vow to continue protests.

They are angry that Eskom cut their illegal connections, saying they have been forced to connect illegally as government is not providing electricity for the community.
Eskom said the illegal connections in the area have resulted in several deaths and it acted swiftly to ensure the safety of the community.
