JOHANNESBURG – Lira, a multi-platinum selling artist with more than 11 awards to her name, is known for her beautiful vocals and soulful music.

The songstress, who grew up listening to the music of Miriam Makeba, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin and Nina Simone, was inspired these artists in her music and performances.

At the age of 16, she started preforming cover versions and later ventured into writing and performing her own songs.

South African producer Arthur Mafokate, the founder of the 999 music record Label, gave Lira her first break when he signed her in 2000. During her time with 999, she released her debut album, All My Love.

After she left 999 music, she teamed up with keyboardist Victor Mngomezulu, bassist Tshepo Sekele, and producer Robin Kohl. In 2006, she released her biggest album to date, Feel Good.
