Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero has reassured residents that the City is not facing a water shortage.
He stated that Joburg Water is actively implementing pressure management strategies to reduce water losses and improve distribution efficiency.
As part of ongoing service delivery and infrastructure improvements, the City has introduced leak detection tools known as “noise loggers.”
These devices monitor the water supply system and send alerts when leaks occur. Currently, around 125 noise loggers have been installed in central Randburg and Roodepoort.
Their commissioning is expected to be completed by the end of April, with plans to install an additional 400 by June 2025.
To assist informal settlements and areas affected by water outages, the City has deployed both stationary and roaming water tankers.
Morero also emphasised that illegal water connections would not be tolerated. Efforts to identify and disconnect these connections will be intensified to ensure a fair and sustainable water supply across Johannesburg.
