Sydney, Australia – Australian counter-terrorism police have raided the home of a man suspected of involvement in the deadly Bondi Beach terror attack as investigators widen their probe into one of the country’s most serious acts of extremist violence in recent years.

The raid took place in the western Sydney suburb of Bonnyrigg, where specialist police units searched a residential property linked to a suspect believed to have played a role in the attack that unfolded at Bondi Beach over the weekend. Authorities confirmed that the operation formed part of an ongoing terrorism investigation and was aimed at gathering evidence, identifying possible accomplices and establishing whether the suspect acted alone or as part of a wider network.

The Bondi Beach attack occurred during a large public Hanukkah gathering, when gunmen opened fire on crowds gathered near the shoreline. Several people were killed and dozens injured, including police officers who responded to the scene. New South Wales Police formally declared the incident a terror attack, citing evidence that the violence was targeted and ideologically motivated.

Investigators have since confirmed that one of the suspected attackers was killed during the police response, while another was taken into custody in critical condition. The raid in Bonnyrigg followed the discovery of vehicles and items believed to be connected to the planning and execution of the attack, prompting authorities to expand their search beyond the immediate crime scene.

Australian officials have urged caution around speculation, particularly regarding the suspect’s background, as investigations continue. Police stressed that the raid was based on operational intelligence and evidence gathered since the attack, and that no conclusions about broader community links should be drawn while inquiries are ongoing.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese condemned the Bondi Beach violence as an act of terrorism driven by hatred and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting all communities from extremist threats. He said security agencies were working around the clock to determine how the attack was planned and whether warning signs had been missed.

The incident has reignited national debate around public safety, radicalisation and the protection of religious and cultural events, particularly at a time of heightened global tensions. Jewish community leaders have described the attack as deeply traumatic, while also praising the swift response of emergency services and civilians who intervened during the chaos.

Police presence remains heightened across Sydney, with additional patrols deployed around public spaces and places of worship. Authorities have indicated that further arrests or searches may follow as the investigation develops.
