Hundreds of Hyundai vehicle owners in South Africa are being urged to contact their nearest dealership after a safety recall was issued for certain Tucson models sold during 2023.
The recall, announced by the National Consumer Commission, affects 337 Hyundai Tucson NX4 N-Line vehicles.
According to Hyundai Automotive South Africa, the affected vehicles may experience problems linked to the Forward Collision Avoidance (FCA) system, a driver assistance feature designed to help prevent accidents by detecting potential collisions and automatically applying the brakes when necessary.
The company said the issue relates to excessive sensitivity within the FCA system, which could result in unintended emergency braking.
As a result, some vehicles may brake unexpectedly even when there is no immediate collision risk.
Hyundai warned that the malfunction could pose a safety risk to vehicle occupants and other road users, particularly in heavy traffic conditions where sudden braking may increase the likelihood of rear end collisions.
The recall applies specifically to certain Tucson NX4 N-Line M1 Category vehicles sold in South Africa during 2023.
Owners who are uncertain whether their vehicles are affected have been encouraged to contact an authorised Hyundai dealership for verification and assistance.
Hyundai has confirmed that the problem can be resolved through a software update to the vehicle’s front camera system.
The corrective repair will be carried out free of charge at authorised dealerships nationwide.
The National Consumer Commission has urged affected motorists not to ignore the recall notice and to arrange the necessary repairs as soon as possible to ensure their vehicles remain safe to operate.
