Manchester, England — Former world boxing champion Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton has died at the age of 46.
Hatton was found dead at his home in Hyde, Greater Manchester, on Sunday morning. Greater Manchester Police confirmed that his death is not being treated as suspicious.
Over the course of a celebrated 15-year professional career, Hatton secured multiple world titles in both the light-welterweight and welterweight divisions. His record stood at 45 wins in 48 fights.
Some of his most notable moments included his victory over Kostya Tszyu in 2005 to claim the IBF light-welterweight title, and memorable clashes with Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao.
After retiring in 2012, Hatton spoke publicly about his struggles with depression, alcohol, and drug use. He had been planning a comeback fight in Dubai later in 2025 at the time of his death.
Tributes have poured in from across the boxing community, reflecting on Hatton’s courage, resilience and popularity both inside and outside the ring. Manchester City Football Club also honoured him with a minute’s applause ahead of their match against Manchester United.
