The Film and Publications Board (FPB) has declined to comment on the unbanning of the controversial isiXhosa film, Inxeba (The Wound). The spokesperson, Manala Botolo, says they are waiting for the outcome of the next court proceedings on the 28 March before they can comment.
After an initial High Court decision on the film’s X-rating, it was reclassified with an age restriction of 18. The producers of the film will later in March ask the High Court in Pretoria to reduce the age restriction to 16, which was the initial decision taken by the FPB.
The X-rating was given after Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa and the Boy and Man Foundation appealed to the FPB appeals board.
The board reclassified the film saying the cumulative impact of the themes of the film is too strong and the sexual related activities do not justify such a low age restriction.
