Former Public Protector and ex-EFF Member of Parliament, Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane, has been appointed by the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party as the Convener for Mpumalanga.

Additionally, the party announced that former KwaZulu-Natal Premier and African National Congress (ANC) veteran, Willies Mchunu, will serve as their provincial leader in KwaZulu-Natal.

This announcement comes as various political parties gear up for the 2026 local government elections. Notably, Mkhwebane joins her husband, David Skosana, who represents MK as an MP in Parliament.

During a media briefing held in Johannesburg on Friday, MK introduced both Mkhwebane and Mchunu as new party members.

Mkhwebane, who joined the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in 2023, resigned from the party last week, expressing in her resignation letter a desire to devote more time to her family.

During the briefing, MK emphasised the importance of KwaZulu-Natal, calling it a crucial region for the party as it expands nationally.

The party has gained considerable attention with prominent politicians joining its ranks.

Several political organisations, including Andile Mgxithama’s Black First Land First, Colleen Makhubele’s South African Rainbow Alliance (SARA), and the Xiluva Party led by former Sedibeng mayor Bongani Baloyi, have recently merged with the party.

Additionally, former EFF Deputy President Floyd Shivambu also left the EFF to join the MK party.
