According to a statement from the Nigerian Army, troops on patrol were able to apprehend two alleged members of the IPOB/ESN, Ifeanyi Godwin and Uche Onuoha, who were driving a Toyota Highlander SUV close to Umunze in the Orumba South Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra State.
Two pump action guns, forty-one ammunition, a handheld communication radio, and fetish items were discovered on the suspects. The announcement claimed that they have been on the Nigeria Police Wanted list since 2023 after further investigations showed their involvement in illegal activities.
According to the Nigerian Army, preliminary investigations also showed that Ifeanyi Godwin purportedly owned a motel that was utilized as an IPOB/ESN operations base and was funded in part by abduction revenues.
In a related event, the service reported that troops in Bodija Area of Ibadan North LGA of Oyo State searched the home of a suspected kidnap kingpin, known as Bello Chikidawoje, based on solid intelligence.
The statement claims that two AK-47 weapons, magazines full of ammo, and extra shells buried within an animal’s cage were found during the operation. There were attempts to capture Bello Chikidawoje and break up his gang.
Troops reacted to a distress call in Ruma Yargamji, Batsari, regarding militants blocking the road in a separate operation in Katsina State.
But according to the army, the terrorists were forced to retreat by the troops’ quick action, and three empty AK-47 magazines were found near the terrorists’ escape route.
