Energy Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi this week met with the board of governors of the South African Petroleum Industry Association (SAPIA).
The meeting held on Monday sought to find ways of strengthening and improving working relations to find lasting solutions to the challenges facing the petroleum sector.
“The meeting dealt with key industry issues such as economic transformation; cleaner fuels, climate change, health safety, security and environment, security of supply and economic regulation. Minister Kubayi emphasised the importance of enhancing synergies for the benefit of the country, and impressed upon the petroleum industry the need to ensure the provision of secure, sustainable and affordable energy,” said the Department of Energy.
The Minister held a fruitful introductory meeting with board of SAPIA which is responsible for advancing the collective interest of the petroleum industry and playing a strategic role in addressing issues relating to refining, distribution and marketing amongst its members.
The meeting further discussed the ongoing alignment of the Petroleum and Liquid fuels Charter to Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment and the Codes of Good Practice.
Acting chairperson of the association Maurice Radebe acknowledged the need for government and industry players to support energy policies to strengthen relations in the interest of all.
Both Minister Kubayi and the petroleum sector leaders acknowledged that transformation is not only an economic but that it is also a social imperative for South Africa to have a sustainable future.
