EFF Demands Trump Be Labeled War Criminal

JOHANNESBURG — The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has called for US President Donald Trump to be declared a war criminal following the high-profile resignation of Joseph Kent, the director of the US National Counterterrorism Center.

Kent resigned with immediate effect on Tuesday, citing his inability to support the ongoing war in Iran. In a resignation letter that has sparked international debate, Kent asserted that Iran posed no imminent threat to the United States and described the conflict as a manufactured one driven by external geopolitical pressures from Israel and its American lobby.

The EFF described Kent’s departure as a damning confirmation that the military action in Iran is illegal and built on deliberate misinformation. The party highlighted that the indictment comes from an official appointed by Trump himself, suggesting deep fractures within the highest levels of American security and intelligence.

The resignation corroborates prior statements from within the Pentagon and intelligence community that there was no credible or verifiable threat posed by Iran, the EFF stated. The party further argued that the development reinforces their view that US foreign policy in the Middle East prioritizes imperial interests over human life.

The controversy comes as South Africa continues its legal challenge against Israel at the International Court of Justice. The EFF maintained that South Africa should not compromise its moral obligations to appease imperial powers, noting that no meaningful diplomatic engagement can normalize relations with the US while such conflicts persist.

In response to the resignation, President Trump dismissed Kent as weak on security, stating that his departure was a positive development. Meanwhile, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt rejected Kent’s claims as false, insisting that the administration possessed compelling evidence of an intended Iranian attack against the US.

The fallout from Kent’s resignation has also resonated within the US Senate. Senator Mark Warner, the top Democrat on the Intelligence Committee, noted that while he previously opposed Kent’s confirmation, the former director was correct in stating there was no credible evidence of an imminent threat to justify a war of choice.

The situation remains fluid as global leaders watch the escalating tensions and internal dissent within the US administration. The EFF has called on the global community to reject the normalization of war crimes and demand an immediate cessation of US and Israel-led military actions.
