JOHANNESBURG – The trial of motorist Preshalin Naidoo, who was involved in a car accident that killed Top Billing television presenter Simba Mhere and his friend Kady Shay O’Brien, is expected to start in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
The trial was expected to start on Monday, but was postponed after the defence attorney fell ill.
Naidoo, 24, who faces two counts of culpable homicide for allegedly causing the accident in January last year. The charges are in connection with the three-car crash along William Nicol Drive in Fourways, Johannesburg, on January 31, 2015.
Mhere‚ 26‚ and O’Bryan‚29, died on the scene. Mhere’s father‚ Joseph‚ who was also in the car survived the crash.
Previously prosecutor Dinesh Nandkissor told the court that the State would be calling a witness who would be testifying about the data retrieved from the tracking device that was in Naidoo’s vehicle.
Francois Roets for Naidoo argued and said that the defence would challenge the states evidence as well as the liability of what the document presented.
