The City of Cape Town has confirmed that several areas will experience planned water supply disruptions as part of scheduled infrastructure maintenance.

According to the City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate, the work forms part of ongoing efforts to upgrade critical infrastructure and improve water supply reliability across the metro.

Areas Affected By Planned Water Shutdowns

Maintenance activities such as pipe installations, valve replacements and system repairs will result in temporary water outages in several communities.

In Joe Slovo, the water supply will be temporarily shut off from 09:00 to 16:00 on Monday, 16 March to allow teams to repair a damaged water main.

Residents in Malibu Village, Electric City and Forest Village will experience a shutdown from 09:00 to 17:00 on Tuesday, 17 March while crews install critical zone management infrastructure within the water supply network.

Parts of Rylands, including Tussen Road, Jane Avenue, Mable Road and Repulse Road, will face water disruptions from 08:00 to 18:00 on Tuesday, 17 March. The temporary interruption will allow officials to assess the affected area ahead of a further shutdown scheduled for Thursday, 19 March, when a temporary pipeline will be installed to support a pipe replacement project.

Meanwhile, sections of Steenberg, including areas around Handel Street, Orchestra Street, Verdi Street, Rosini Street, Gluck Street and Military Road, will experience a water shutdown from 09:00 to 19:00 on Thursday, 19 March.

Water Treatment Plant Maintenance

Separately, the Voëlvlei Water Treatment Plant will undergo scheduled maintenance. The facility will be shut down from 08:00 on Monday, 23 March until midnight on Wednesday, 25 March to allow for maintenance on key components of the water treatment process.

The City has encouraged residents in affected areas to prepare in advance and store sufficient water for essential use during the maintenance period.
