Cabinet has urged all South Africans to unite against the increasing wave of misinformation, disinformation, and propaganda aimed at undermining government efforts and dividing citizens.
In a statement issued on Friday following recent Cabinet meetings on 12 February 2025 and a special session on 29 January 2025, Cabinet emphasized the importance of national solidarity. “We must not allow false narratives to divide us. Our resilience and shared history have shown that together we can overcome any challenge,” Cabinet said.
The statement called upon citizens to uphold democratic values such as non-racialism, tolerance, compassion, peace, justice, equality, freedom, and human dignity.
Cabinet reflected on South Africa’s historical commitment to justice, reiterating that the nation cannot ignore human rights abuses occurring globally and must advocate for those who are suffering.
Furthermore, Cabinet supported President Ramaphosa’s recent assertion in his State of the Nation Address, affirming that South Africa will not yield to external pressures or intimidation. “South Africa belongs to all who live in it, and we are united in our diversity. We must speak with one voice to defend our national interests, sovereignty, and constitutional democracy,” Cabinet stated.
“Together, we are fostering a nation that encourages open dialogue, promotes social cohesion, and embraces everyone, regardless of race,” Cabinet concluded.
