Limpopo‘s government says it was planning to invest in kick starting operations at the Motumo Trading Post and Game Reserve in Botlokwa, when it was burned to ashes on Friday.

The reserve is located 10 kilometres south of the famed Tropic of Capricorn. Limpopo’s government spokesperson Phuthi Seloba says the reserve was a white elephant.

“The government of the province admits the initiative was a white elephant and that the plans to revive it where already underway so it could help the province’s economy.”

Although they are not ruling out foul play, police say they have dispatched a team of experts to investigate the matter.

Police spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe says they are investigating the cause of the fire.

“At this stage the cause of fire is not clear yet but our investigations as well as those of the forensic will tell because that is where our direction will start. We are therefore calling on members of the community who might be aware what happened here to contact us.”
