DJ Warras was in the process of developing a comprehensive blueprint aimed at addressing the problem of hijacked buildings in Johannesburg’s inner city, according to a close friend and business associate.
Speaking exclusively to EWN on Wednesday, Nicole Nelson said Warras, whose real name was Warrick Stock, had begun laying the groundwork for a structured intervention that she believes placed him in conflict with criminal elements operating in the Johannesburg CBD.
Nelson alleged that Warras became a target because of the work he was doing to confront building hijackings, a system she claims involves individuals in the underworld operating alongside compromised state structures.
Earlier this year, Warras was contracted to assist attorneys responsible for managing a hijacked inner-city building known as Zambesi House.
Nelson said he approached the task with a clear strategy and the support of a capable team, describing the project as one that was gaining momentum.
She added that the proposed solution threatened entrenched interests that benefited from the status quo surrounding hijacked properties in the city.
Through his security company, Imperium Ops, Warras conducted an audit of occupants at Zambesi House and subsequently submitted a briefing report in July as part of efforts to stabilise and reclaim the building.
