British heavyweight boxing star Anthony Joshua has sustained minor injuries following a car crash in Nigeria that left two people dead, Nigerian authorities have confirmed.
The crash occurred on Monday morning along the Ogun–Lagos, also known as the Lagos–Ibadan, expressway, one of the country’s busiest highways.
Joshua, 36, who has family ties to Sagamu in Ogun State, was travelling in a Lexus SUV when it collided with a stationary truck parked on the side of the road.
Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said five adult men were involved in the incident. Two people were pronounced dead at the scene, while two others escaped without injury.
Joshua was rescued alive and sustained minor injuries before being taken to a medical facility for treatment.
Preliminary findings by the FRSC indicate that the Lexus was travelling above the legal speed limit and lost control while attempting to overtake, resulting in the collision with the truck.
Images released by officials show extensive damage to the vehicle, a dented truck and debris scattered across the roadway.
The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the fatalities and announced that a full investigation is under way to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.
The identities of the deceased have not yet been made public. Police officers are continuing to gather information, including verifying details with the hospital involved.
Meanwhile, photos and videos circulating on social media show Joshua seated in the back of the damaged vehicle, surrounded by shattered glass, appearing visibly uncomfortable as he exits the wreckage.
Just hours before the accident, Joshua had shared a video on Instagram of himself playing table tennis, during what appeared to be a visit to Nigeria following his recent bout against Jake Paul on 19 December.
Authorities have indicated that further details will be released as investigations progress, including clarification on how the victims were travelling and whether additional factors contributed to the crash.
