Sodwana Bay Guest House owner Andre Slade and his partner Katerina Krizani explain why they believe whites are different from blacks, even as they insist they are not racist.

Speaking at his lodge‚ where a 2000-strong crowd of ANC Youth League members and supporters had gathered on Wednesday‚ Slade said that God had created whites with a “crown” on their heads.

Pointing to a spot just above his partner Katerina Krizani’s forehead‚ he explained: “That is a crown. The hair does a twirl. You guys don’t have that. This is a crown that God gave us.”

Krizani said that the Old Testament talked about servants and racial hierarchy.

“There is the quote where God says there is Nebuchadnezzar‚ who is my servant. He gave him the beasts of the field‚ which is another servant. He speaks of many different kinds. Don’t you have a boss in your work? We have hierarchy everywhere‚” she said. Slade added: “Everybody has a boss. Our boss is God.”

Outraged residents and ANC marched to the business establishment to show their disapproval , DA leader Maimane also recalled his incident on Thursday last week after Slade received backlash and calls to shut down his KwaZulu-Natal guest house following a racist response the lodge had sent to a black person who wanted to book the venue‚ saying they “don’t accommodate black people and government employees any longer”.

The DA leader called Slade a racist and urged the South African Human Rights Commission to fast-track an investigation into the establishment’s conduct.

“This matter is also personal to me‚ as the perpetrator has previously referred to me as a ‘beast’ and ‘little bastard’ in his online blog‚ revealing his racism in no uncertain terms‚” Maimane said.

“We thus welcome the decision by the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) to investigate this case of overt racism‚ and we urge the SAHRC to act expeditiously in this matter in order to send a clear message to racists and those who engage in racist behaviour.”

He also invoked the name of Dutch seafarer Jan van Riebeeck to justify his views.

“When Jan van Riebeeck arrived here as a white male‚ he met you. The difference was just huge. I mean‚ all of you moved down from North Africa‚ all the way through Africa to the south where we met. We came from Europe and there were cities everywhere‚ but not one in Africa‚” he said.

KwaZulu-Natal economic development MEC Sihle Zikalala had‚ earlier in the day‚ called for Slade to be evicted from the land occupied by the lodge because he allegedly got his lease under false pretenses and was operating the business without a license. Criminal charges against him‚ including for hate speech‚ have also been opened.

Slade‚ however‚ said that he was not worried about the call for him to leave. “If we have to leave‚ according to my Father‚ then we have to leave. If we have to stay‚ then we stay. There’s nobody who can move us now because we don’t belong to any system. We don’t adhere to any laws that are not God’s law. What the bible tells me I can do‚ I do – nothing‚ nothing else‚” he said.
