The incident has drawn sympathy from members of the public as well as political figures, including Bonginkosi Khanyile and Zwakele Mncwango.

According to reports shared by Nhlaka Production, three unidentified men allegedly arrived at the property looking for Mchunu, who was reportedly in Johannesburg at the time of the incident.

Shortly after the men left, family members allegedly discovered that the rondavels on the property had caught fire.

The motive behind the incident remains unknown.

In a video shared online, Mchunu appeared emotional as he recounted how he learned about the fire. He said he received a phone call informing him that men had come to the homestead searching for him before the fire broke out.

Mchunu also stated that he had lived in the area since 2014 and did not believe he had enemies within the community who would carry out such an act.

His son, S’bani Mchunu, also spoke publicly about the incident, describing it as a traumatic experience for the family.

He said the fire destroyed everything inside the house and expressed concern that children were inside the property at the time. According to him, the situation could have turned even more tragic had the children been trapped inside.

The incident also prompted the return of Floda, who reportedly travelled back from Cape Town after hearing about the fire.

Reports indicate that the affected homestead is where Floda resides, in line with the family’s polygamous household structure.

Videos and images shared online show Mchunu and Floda assessing the damage caused by the fire as investigations into the incident continue.
