The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate has announced a series of planned water disruptions as part of ongoing maintenance and infrastructure upgrades across the metro.
The work will include pipe repairs, valve replacements and pressure testing, aimed at improving the reliability of the water supply system over the long term.
Residents are being encouraged to store water in clean, sealed containers ahead of the scheduled work, as a precaution in case of interruptions. Officials noted that while not all areas may experience outages, preparation is advised.
MAINTENANCE TO CAUSE TEMPORARY DISRUPTIONS
On Tuesday, 7 April, areas including Parkwood Estate, Fairways and parts of Ottery will face water cuts for up to seven hours. Oranjezicht and surrounding streets will experience outages lasting up to 12 hours, while parts of Rylands will be without water for approximately 10 hours.
On Wednesday, 8 April, Grassy Park is expected to experience intermittent disruptions throughout the day. Bergvliet will have no water supply for over 10 hours, while several areas including Athlone, Crawford and surrounding suburbs may face low pressure or intermittent supply. Parow and Elsies River could also be affected due to pressure testing.
EXTENDED DISRUPTIONS IN SOME AREAS
Further outages are scheduled for Thursday, 9 April, with parts of Rylands and Philippi expected to be without water for most of the day.
A more extensive 24-hour disruption is planned from Thursday morning to Friday morning, affecting areas such as Century City, Milnerton, Kensington, Maitland, Goodwood and surrounding suburbs. During this time, residents can expect low water pressure or no supply.
INFRASTRUCTURE WORK TO SUPPORT LONG-TERM SUPPLY
The City said the extended shutdown will allow teams to replace critical infrastructure, including a major valve component, as part of efforts to strengthen the water network.
Residents in affected areas are urged to use water sparingly where supply is still available to help maintain pressure across the system.
