Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero is confronting a third motion of no confidence in just two months, this time tabled by coalition partner Al Jama-Ah. The party cited frustration with Morero, alleging he has not addressed the concerns raised by coalition members.
Al Jama-Ah previously filed two motions against Morero: one in December, which was withdrawn just before the vote, and another last month, which failed. The latest motion is scheduled to be heard in council on Thursday.
ANC regional secretary Sasabona Manganye described the repeated attempts to remove the mayor as “exhausting,” noting that such issues should not be resolved through motions.
The motion follows the city’s election of ANC regional chairperson and Finance MMC Loyiso Masuku as Johannesburg’s first-ever deputy mayor, a newly created role intended to strengthen executive continuity in the metro.
