Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Nonceba Mhlauli, has reported that over 53,000 young people benefited from the Presidential Youth Employment initiative between October and December last year.
Mhlauli highlighted the programme’s progress during the third quarter of the 2024 to 2025 financial year, emphasising its role in addressing South Africa’s youth unemployment crisis.
Launched in 2020, the initiative aims to combat South Africa’s persistently high youth unemployment rate, which currently stands at 45.5 percent.
The programme focuses on creating temporary earning opportunities, including work integrated learning, paid service positions, and work based placements.
During the same period, the initiative also provided support to young entrepreneurs, with more than 14,600 financial and non-financial opportunities designed to help them grow their businesses.
