JOHANNESBURG – President Cyril Ramaphosa will lead South Africa’s delegation to the 55th Annual World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting in Davos, Switzerland, from January 20 to 24, 2025.
The meeting brings together global leaders to address pressing challenges such as geopolitical disruptions, fostering economic growth to enhance living standards, and advancing a just, inclusive energy transition.
As the current President of the Group of 20 (G20), South Africa’s delegation will emphasize its G20 Presidency theme, “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability.” President Ramaphosa will deliver a special address highlighting South Africa’s economic priorities under the Government of National Unity (GNU) and the country’s commitment to leveraging the G20 platform to promote inclusive economic growth and environmental sustainability.
In a statement on Monday, the Presidency reaffirmed South Africa’s commitment to addressing systemic inequalities and fostering global unity.
“South Africa’s G20 Presidency aims to create equitable opportunities by addressing disparities and fostering collaboration to tackle shared global challenges,” the statement said.
The WEF meeting offers South Africa a platform to showcase its potential as a global investment hub and highlight ongoing structural reforms. The delegation, which includes key government and business leaders, will engage with international stakeholders to strengthen partnerships and advance South Africa’s economic and social objectives.
“Through these engagements, South Africa seeks to reaffirm its role as a global leader in sustainable development and collaborative problem-solving,” the Presidency added.
This year’s WEF meeting, themed “Collaboration in the Intelligent Age,” will explore innovative responses to challenges, particularly in leveraging technology to drive economic development and inclusivity.
“South Africa aims to harness technological advancements to modernize industries, enhance skills development, and improve public services, thereby promoting inclusive growth and enhancing global competitiveness,” the Presidency said.
