Johannesburg Water has assured residents that water tankers will be made available during an 86-hour shutdown beginning on Friday.
As the utility conducts essential maintenance on critical infrastructure, residents will face dry taps until Monday.
The Zwartkoppies and Eikenhof pump stations are scheduled for repairs, which will impact areas such as Randburg, Soweto, and Roodepoort.
Nombuso Tshabalala, spokesperson for Johannesburg Water, confirmed that details regarding the placement of water tankers will be shared shortly.
“At this stage, we are finalising the water tankers and the location where they will be placed,” he said.
Tshabalala also noted that while the water supply will function normally for the first 24 hours, residents should expect either low pressure or no water thereafter.
Meanwhile, the political party Build One South Africa (BOSA) has criticised the Gauteng government’s handling of the ongoing water crisis in the province.
Rising water consumption and high temperatures have led to severe water shortages in certain areas.
After securing a seat in the Gauteng legislature during the elections, BOSA now serves in the opposition.
Party spokesperson Ayanda Allie expressed frustration with the government’s response, stating that officials should have learned how to manage water shortages based on their experience with the energy crisis.
“An effective solution is to first admit you have a problem. To first admit it is a crisis. It feels like 2008 when we were on the verge of load shedding,” Allie said.
