Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane will address the media on Monday morning in Cape Town on the progress being made in a number of DA-run local municipalities.
It is two years since the 2016 Local Government elections, which saw the DA take control of a number of local municipalities countrywide, many in coalition with smaller parties.
Maimane will be joined by the Mayors of Kouga in the Eastern Cape, Modimolle-Mookgophong in Limpopo and Drakenstein in the Western Cape.
The speaker of the Thabazimbi municipality in Limpopo will also attend the media briefing.
This is after outgoing City of Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille resigned last week following protracted differences with her party.
DA Western Cape leader, Bonginkosi Madikizela, says the criteria for applicants will be discussed at the meeting.
“Once we open for application that’s only when we can receive applications. Normally the process is that once the vacancy is declared, we open up for applications and all those people who meet the requirements to appear before the selection panel, will then appear before for the panel. The council chairperson will then select the suitable candidate,” says Madikizela.
