Johannesburg – At a time when the leadership of the ANC is fighting to clean up the party and regain some trust amongst party members who have distanced themselves from the new ANC.

The actions of the senior officials of the ANC is very important to achieving the goal of a new and redefined ANC but with the recent incidence of Thabang Setona, the ANC branch secretary of Ward 62. The flaws in the leadership of the embattled ANC is no more a topic that can be ignored by a party that is trying to regain the trust of the people.

Thabang Setona is seen in a crowd of pro-ANC supporters trying to disperse a group of BLF protesters, kicking an old woman.

Thabang who was in an Interview before the incidence referred to the BLF protesters and party members as nyaope revolutionaries who should march to the Union Buildings and not Luthuli House.

Members of the public see this as an insult to the people of this nation who believed that the appointment of Cyril Ramaphosa would see a better and changing ANC. If Cyril Ramaphosa is to make South Africans believe in his will and optimism to correct a defracted party, then here is the time to prove his stance by ensuring Thabang Setona is made accountable for his actions.

“Comrades”, is this what you meant when you said you are going to defend the ANC? Did you mean you are going to violate women, kick them like pieces of trash? Did you mean you are going to perform your violent masculinity to show how powerful and strong you are? says Andisiwe Jacqueline Ndara, a concerned citizen.

Protest is a Human Right enshrined in our Constitution thus we will defend and protect it. What we won’t do however is protect and watch as criminality unfolds.

ANC Response to the incidence

The African National Congress Greater Johannesburg Region has noted with dismay and utter disgust the images and videos circulating of Thabiso Setona, ANC Branch Secretary in Inner City, Zone 12, assaulting a woman outside Luthuli House this afternoon.

As the ANC in Joburg, we strongly condemn any acts of violence against any person, more so women. The ANC Greater Joburg does not subscribe to the notion of people violently assaulting those who hold contrasting political views.

Thabiso Setona’s acts do not represent what the African National Congress stands for, and as a consequence of his revolting behavior, he will face a disciplinary process hastily.

A usual occurrence, the Higher Education and Training Deputy Minister, Mduduzi Manana, was also embroiled in a sexual and abusive allegation last year August .He apologized following the reports of the assault that was also captured on video.
