According to the government, during that time, it purchased 30,000 CNG conversion kits for free distribution around the country.

Within the following three months, N36 billion will be spent on the kits and conversion expenses, which were estimated to be worth N1.2 million for each car.

In order to guarantee the uptake of CNG as a substitute fuel for vehicles, this action is being taken

During the Park to Park CNG Mobilization program conducted at Ojota Park in Lagos on Saturday, Michael Oluwagbemi, the Project Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative, made this statement.

According to Oluwagbemi, President Bola Tinubu is taking action to make sure transporters switch from expensive gasoline and diesel to compressed natural gas (CNG), since he believes this will lower transportation costs and, consequently, the rising cost of food.

The President is considering giving one million CNG kits as palliatives to commercial drivers throughout Nigeria.

We’re here today with conversion kits. These kits have been purchased in excess of 30,000, primarily for distribution within the next ninety days. This will guarantee that commercial transport employees can directly profit from the federal government’s palliative. We are in Lagos for this purpose. We have the states of Ogun, Ekiti, Osun, and Oyo present as well.

This urgent palliative care will be beneficial to all of us. According to what the President has said, the goal is one million kits, not simply 30,000. He said, “We want to make sure that everyone may take advantage of this government effort.

Oluwagbemi declared that more CNG stations would be constructed by the government, allowing drivers to purchase the fuel for less than N250 per kilogram.

“The days of purchasing fuel for N750, N800, or N1,000 per litre are gone. We will never again do it. In order for us to purchase it at N230/kg, we shall begin using the gas beneath our feet,” he said.

He continued by saying that a minimum of 150 drivers will receive coupons to have their cars transformed at no cost by any of the 14 businesses chosen in Lagos.

Fourteen of the installers for these kits are present with us. We will both sign a contract. These CNG converters will still come in a thousand pieces.

“The coupons for the free conversion will be given to a portion of you. Before you know it, everyone will be utilizing CNG as we begin gradually.

“CNG is beneficial for the environment, our wallets, and the food we eat. Food prices will decrease in tandem with a decrease in transportation costs. The administration has promised to do this. You will all be affected by this, he assured them.

Sola Giwa, the Special Advisor on Transportation to the Lagos State Governor, expressed hope that switching to CNG will result in a 50% reduction in transportation costs.
