CAPE TOWN – The African National Congress (ANC) in the Western Cape has confirmed the party’s provincial secretary, Faiez Jacobs, has been suspended.

Jacobs appeared before a disciplinary committee on Saturday.

He was charged with bringing the party into disrepute for allegedly assaulting a researcher at the party’s offices late last year.

Last week the ANC’s National Working Committee sent Jacobs a letter of intention to suspend him.

He had returned to work on Tuesday after being placed on “precautionary leave” by the party’s Provincial Executive Committee last month.

The ANC’s Zizi Kodwa said Jacobs had until Saturday to explain to national leadership why he should not be suspended.
