Mohamed Salah has confirmed he will leave Liverpool FC at the end of the 2025–26 season, bringing an end to one of the most successful eras in the club’s modern history.

The announcement came via a video shared on social media, with the club later releasing an official statement confirming that the 33-year-old forward will depart following a mutual agreement.

Despite signing a two-year extension last year, Salah’s time at Anfield is now set to conclude after nine memorable seasons.

END OF A REMARKABLE ERA

Since arriving from AS Roma in 2017, Salah has established himself as a Liverpool icon. He has made 435 appearances and scored 255 goals, placing him third on the club’s all-time scoring list behind Ian Rush and Roger Hunt.

His contributions have been central to Liverpool’s success in recent years, including two Premier League titles and a UEFA Champions League triumph. Along the way, Salah has broken multiple records and consistently delivered at the highest level, cementing his legacy as one of the club’s greatest players.

DIFFICULT FINAL SEASON

Salah’s departure comes during a challenging campaign for Liverpool, who have struggled to defend their league title. The Egyptian forward has managed just five league goals this season, a significant drop from the 29 he scored in the previous campaign.

His reduced impact on the pitch has been accompanied by visible tensions off it. Earlier in the season, Salah publicly expressed frustration after being left out of the starting line-up by manager Arne Slot, raising questions about his role in the team’s evolving structure.

HEARTFELT FAREWELL

In his farewell message, Salah reflected on his deep connection with the club, the city, and its supporters. He expressed gratitude to teammates, past and present, as well as the fans who supported him throughout his time at Anfield.

While acknowledging that leaving is never easy, Salah emphasised that Liverpool will always feel like home to him and his family. His message carried a strong sense of appreciation and emotional closure, underlining the bond he built during his time on Merseyside.

WHAT COMES NEXT

Salah’s exit marks the end of a defining chapter for Liverpool as they prepare for a new era under Slot. Replacing a player of his calibre will be a significant challenge, both in terms of goals and leadership.

For Salah, attention will now turn to the next stage of his career, with speculation expected to intensify in the coming months. Regardless of where he goes next, his legacy at Liverpool is firmly secured as one of the club’s modern greats.
