Wombles Steakhouse : Setting the facts straight

Johannesburg  13 December 2016  – On Saturday 10 December 2016, Yvette Barker owner of Wombles Steakhouse and her gardener were attacked in Hobart Road at the Hobart Centre in Bryanston by two armed attackers.

The incident took place in the busy street outside the Hobart Shopping Centre and the renowned Wombles Steakhouse.

Mrs Barker was on her way to deliver stock and other goods for the restaurant which was closed at the time.

Mrs Barker was stabbed twice; she was treated at a local medical facility and released on the same day.

Unfortunately Mr Tabani Dube who was standing next to Mrs Barker’s vehicle was shot and fatally injured by the second assailant.

Shoppers and shopping centre staff came to the assistance of Mrs Barker and Mr Dube and called emergency services.

The suspects fled the scene on foot and were pursued by bystanders.  The suspect who shot and killed Mr Tabani Dube was apprehended by members of the community at the Bryanston Shell garage a few blocks away from the scene of the attack and is currently in police custody awaiting trial. The second assailant is still at large and the local SAPS are doing everything possible to apprehend him.

The attack was caught on CCTV cameras and all the footage is currently with the SAPS team investigating the attack.

This regrettable fatal attack is one of many that have taken place in recent weeks at shopping centres around the country.

The management team of Wombles would like to reassure guests and patrons that safety and security of their guests is paramount and that they have added an additional security guard to the existing team of two who are always on duty during operating hours. This is in addition to the security team provided by the Hobart Shopping Centre.

 

Tabani Dube was a valued member of the Barker Family household staff and in the light of this the family are making arrangements to support Tabani’s family at with the costs of the funeral and transport of the body to his home town.

The management and staff of Wombles would like to take this opportunity to express their sadness at the loss of a valued member of staff in a senseless act of violence and reassures guests that its business as usual at Wombles.
