KwaZulu-Natal – On Sunday, members of a national project team set up to combat the poaching of rhinos in the country arrested yet another two suspects, a man and a woman.
The team, acting on information, have worked around the clock since Saturday night.
At around midday yesterday they spotted a Mercedes Benz, which was the subject of their operation in the area or Ntambanana. The driver, a 44 year old woman and a 33 year old male from Hazyview, Mpumalanga were arrested after the team found a rhino horn and parts of a hunting rifle and ammunition in the vehicle.
Both suspects are currently in police custody and they are expected to appear in the Ngwelezana Magistrates Court this morning. They are likely to face charges of unlawful possession of a rhino horn and unlawful possession of ammunition. Further charges may be preferred against them in respect of the rifle parts found in their possession.
