The Tourism Business Council says some of the visa regulations that Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba relaxed are confusing.
Gigaba announced the relaxation as part of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s economic recovery plan.
The amendments include the easing of travel regulations for foreign minors traveling to South Africa and plans to issue long-term multiple entry visas to investors and academics.
The chairperson of the council’s board Blacky Komani says regulations should not be vague.
“With rules, you’ve got to be clear so that people know exactly what they have to bring so that when they get to the country they don’t get disappointed after making an application. So you know, that’s the area that needs to be cleared with Home Affairs. It’s not quite clear what you need to produce in order for you to qualify.”
