JOHANNESBURG – Officials from the University of Johannesburg’s main campus in Auckland Park, is putting plans in place to ensure next month’s graduation ceremonies go ahead.
Suspected arsonists torched the computer lab and main auditorium where graduations are held in the early hours of Monday morning.
Authorities have called on police to help identify the perpetrators whom they say are not students of the university.
But some students are pointing fingers at campus security.
“There are bouncers everywhere on campus. How could it be possible that they could not stop people from burning the auditorium, it’s the biggest auditorium where we have our graduations and everything. It is clear that that bouncers might be behind this,” said Tshireto Mati EFF Chairperson at the UJ Campus.
The damage has been estimated at R100-million.
