Cooking fatigue is real and after weeks of bidding farewell to food delivery options, this weekend South Africans were once again reunited with the sound of the notification, informing them that their meal is on the way.

Uber Eats is thrilled to announce that since 1 May 2020, customers have been able to order food via the app whilst in the comfort of their own home from 9 am and 7 pm daily, with the option of contactless delivery. The first weekend of food deliveries has seen a tremendous amount of excitement from customers, with the top three most ordered items on the Uber Eats app including Chicken Wings, Pizza, and Hot Dogs.

During the lockdown, Pinterest boards and food bloggers have seen a surge in followers, with many locals looking for made-at-home takeaway-style recipes. With the easing of restrictions, Uber Eats is back on duty, which means that customers can now look forward to hanging up that apron and taking a much-needed break from cooking meals every night.

Globally, food trends are beginning to move away from indulgence and into a more health-conscious space. Based on recent food trends through the app, customers in South Africa are focused on staying healthy and choosing to munch on their favorite salads and soups.  For those who are still committed to their health goals even amid the pandemic, it’s safe to say that it’s all about the bowls! Popular orders include chicken noodle soup, Poke Bowls, Burrito Bowls, and Nacho Bowls.

Safety continues to be a top priority for Uber Eats, and helping people stay at home while still getting all the items they need, whether it be food, medication, or other essential goods, will help further flatten the curve. Since the outbreak, delivery people have received sanitiser and mask reimbursements and Uber has issued information and guidance which include helpful tips to all app users on fighting the virus. Uber Eats remains committed to working with restaurant partners, government agencies, and communities at large to keep people safe and fed.

It’s time to stop the Instagram Live cooking classes, as locals swap recipe books for delivery apps because any food one didn’t have to make themselves, just somehow always tastes better. Free delivery will also apply during May, now that’s the cream of the crop!
