The City of Tshwane has notified residents in the Eersterust Reservoir supply zone of a scheduled 48-hour water interruption set to take place from Monday, 6 May to Tuesday, 7 May. This planned disruption will allow technicians to carry out vital upgrades to the reservoir infrastructure.

Work is set to begin at 7:00 on Monday and will continue throughout the two-day period. To minimise the impact, all supplying reservoirs will be filled to capacity ahead of the shutdown. However, temporary water supply interruptions may still occur in areas such as Derdepoort, Despatch, Eersterust and its extensions, Hartbeespoort, Jan Niemandpark, Mamelodi Ext 13, Silvertondale, and Waltloo.

Residents are encouraged to store adequate water for household use before the outage begins. In addition to topping up reservoir levels, the City advises households to fill storage containers and use water conservatively throughout the affected period.

Beyond the immediate shutdown, the City is calling on residents to adopt long-term water-saving habits. It recommends avoiding garden irrigation with hosepipes or sprinkler systems between 6:00 and 18:00, refraining from washing vehicles with hosepipes, and limiting activities such as filling swimming pools. The use of grey water for non-potable purposes like flushing toilets and watering plants is also encouraged.

To further support conservation efforts, residents are urged to report any leaks or signs of water wastage and to consider installing water-efficient devices in their homes.

While acknowledging the inconvenience this may cause, the City has asked for the community’s cooperation and understanding during the maintenance period.
